In early ’80s (1981) SONY unveiled a new special type of camera,

The legendary MAVICA (MAgnetic VIdeo CAmera)

The prototype.

It was filmless and recorded images on 2 inch floppy disks (MAVIPAKS) and played them back on a TV set or compatible monitor.

The MAVICA was not really a digital camera but a TV camera capable of writing TV stills.

A MAVIPAK disk could record up to 50 still color pictures.

The MAVICA was powered by 3 AA size batteries.
